I got an email from Mike Camp the other day, letting me know about an ice festival in Lake City on the weekend of March 1st. They’ve got an ice park down there, and from looking at the guidebook, it appears there are some great natural climbs as well. Lake City is a cool spot, very atypical for Colorado. Maybe because it’s a rare mountain town (in this state) without a ski resort to ruin it. Anyways, here’s the lowdown:
Sign in at 10am on Saturday the 1st.
Competition starts at noon.
Prizes are:
1st place – 10.3 60m Edelweiss Super Dry Rope
2nd & 3rd place – cash!
Dinner & a Movie starts at 6pm. They are hoping to show the Eiger Sanction.
We’ve already got plans, but if we didn’t that sounds like a great time. Everybody should head down there, I’m sure it’ll be a blast. Shoot me an email if you’d like to contact Mike and get more info. I’m sure there are couches to sleep on and what not.
You can also read more about the climbing in the area and see some pictures.

Hi, we’ve been sponsoring some ice climbing competitors and hosting dry-tooling clinics. We’ll be at Ouray again this year and were excited to find out about Lake City’s event. If you’d be interested in having us there to show our product (we’ve got a mobile climbing wall to mount our Ice Holdz) and/or do a clinic, please let us know.
Thank you for your time.
