Ok, so the Adirondacks are a long way from Colorado, but it’s where I got my start as a climber, and it still holds a special place in my heart. It’s a rugged and wild area about the same size as the state of Vermont, with endless climbing opportunities. As witness to that, the new guidebook, written by my friend Jeremy Haas along with Jim Lawyer, is nearly 700 pages long, detailing almost 2000 routes at 242 areas. Whew!
The amount of time and energy they have put into this book is amazing, my own humble contributions to the new Western Sloper book pale in comparison. I’ve not yet seen the finished product, but from the sample they have on their site, it looks impressive. It also includes essays written by prominent local climbers. I love that this has become a trend among new guidebooks, it really adds to the flavor of an area, knowing what the people are like that climb there. A big shout out to those guys for a job well done!
