Here’s an event coming up this winter that promises to be great fun. I always thought we could use more climbing festivals around here. From the folks at Rock and Ice:
Come join Rock and Ice as we celebrate the Redstone Winterfest, February 5, 6, 7. Demo the latest ice gear from Black Diamond, Petzl, CAMP, gear from Omega Pacific, La Sportiva boots, and gear from Mammut and hop on topropes set on a variety of mixed and ice routes from WI 2 to M 10.
Or, just show up, climb and enjoy brews and brauts with us. Between routes, check out Will Gadd and Sam Elias as they project a new M12 up Coal Creek.
Saturday night, at the Redstone Inn, you can attend an exclusive advance screening of the new film North Face, the story behind the competition to first climb the Eiger’s North Face.
The Winterfest will also include cross-country ski and snowshoe races, a chili cookoff and, of course, a beer tasting. See you there!
Hayden Carpenter and Tom Bohanon recently repeated an obscure ice climb on the south side of Mt Sopris. Given a brief mention in Jack Robert’s ice guide, Bulldog Creek Walk is described as being 100 meters of WI 4. What they found was seven pitches of ice in a remote setting that makes for one […]
Can’t wait!
oh ya!! another corporate ice fest, now i know why Duanes been rallying soooooo many bolts in. money money money. think ill stick to stoney fest.
Hey Coop, FYI: this is a totally volunteer gig. RI is donating ad space, labor and getting a lot of companies to show up and help out as well, from Black Diamond to Petzl. It’s a big community effort and there’s no charge. It’s supposed to be a positive event. Sounds like you should stay home.
Cheers,
DR
I forgot to mention that we’ll be giving away some cool gear as well. Nemo, for instance, generously provided a Nano tent ($389) and a Tuo Lite pad ($67) and some of the other companies will be giving away the goods as well. Just show up, climb, have a great time and put your name in the hat for the drawings. It’s free.
Cheers,
DR
Pumped up for some Redstone Ice! Game on!!!

Well I spoke with DR at Ouray and he was very cool, most welcoming that I should attend and climb at this event, that there would be bolted routes with the draws hung AND belayers (yeah!) so I am planning to attend. Ouray is a great event but a second ice-happening in CO would be ideal so I plan to show up and pull for all I am worth…
There’s beer, oui?
