Choss Files #1 – Team Splitterchoss Makes it to Idaho

We made it to Boise, Idaho yesterday, where we will be for the next two months. The drive went quick and we got to climb at Dierke’s Lake, steep basalt sport climbing, along the way. I guess I’ve been spending too much time on the slabby stuff, I got pretty worked! Great fun and definitely worth checking out if you are in the area.

Apparently there is a lot of untapped potential around here and I’m excited to check it out. One area is listed in the guidebook, here’s what it has to say:

“The canyon walls are composed mainly of rotten rhyolite and climbing is limited to where the walls aren’t a crumbling mess. The established routes are typically on acceptable rock but chunks have been known to come off. When the rock is sound, it tends to be well-featured and fun to climb.” The book only lists 10 routes.

Sounds like business as usual for western Colorado! Hopefully we’ll go check it out tonight.
