A couple news items I wanted to get out this Friday. Have a great weekend everyone!
On Saturday, February 5th, there was an ice climbing accident on Glenwood Falls, involving a lead fall which lead to a broken leg. Thankfully there were other climbers in the area to assist the injured party back to the parking lot, but there wasn’t enough man-power to get him and his gear out, so they opted to temporarily leave the gear behind. They’d planned to get it back on February 11, but the gear was gone when they got there that morning (although it had been there the afternoon of February 9). In total eight ice screws and a rack of carabiners and slings that had been used to facilitate the rescue, along with two ice tools which remained in the ice at the falling climber’s high point, were taken from the climb.
If you know anything about this, or have the gear and would like to get it back to the rightful owner, it would be greatly appreciated. Shoot us an email and we’ll help get the gear back to the injured climber.
In case you bought these Camalot ripoffs cams, there is a recall out on the size 4 and 5 cams. Check out more info here.
While it’s a popular weekend for ice fests, with events in Lake City and Cody, if you are in Colorado and don’t feel like driving as far as those other spots, come on down to Redstone. It should be a fun weekend, and the weather looks mild so it’ll be good sticky ice conditions. Things are fat, and many routes that don’t usually come in are getting climbed. Check out some of the local conditions over on the Rock and Ice site.
Also part of the weekend is the US premier of The Prophet, a segment from the upcoming fim Psyche 2 about Leo Houldings bid to free a new line on El Cap. It’ll be showing at 7:30pm at the Redstone Inn, tix are $7.

Hayden Carpenter and Tom Bohanon recently repeated an obscure ice climb on the south side of Mt Sopris. Given a brief mention in Jack Robert’s ice guide, Bulldog Creek Walk is described as being 100 meters of WI 4. What they found was seven pitches of ice in a remote setting that makes for one […]
The lost ice gear has been recovered! Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone out there who helped spread the word!
