The Friends of Indian Creek held their annual meeting Saturday, March 12th, in Moab. The most interesting news is that there WILL NOT be toilets at Superbowl or Creek Pasture this season, as it’s gotten too expensive for the FOIC to maintain. They are looking at working with the BLM to put in pit toilets at each location, but at the earliest this wont happen until May. For now, they are hoping folks go back to using wag bags and the toilets at Beef Basin, Super Crack and Newspaper Rock.
It was great having toilets at these popular campgrounds, and it feels weird having to go back to the stone age, with our WAG bags and all. I hope everyone will continue to do their part to limit the impact of human waste on the area and keep our relationship with the BLM on the up and up.
You can check out the full meeting minutes on their Facebook page.

Hayden Carpenter and Tom Bohanon recently repeated an obscure ice climb on the south side of Mt Sopris. Given a brief mention in Jack Robert’s ice guide, Bulldog Creek Walk is described as being 100 meters of WI 4. What they found was seven pitches of ice in a remote setting that makes for one […]
That is bad news about no toilets in those campgrounds! Hopefully people will respect the place and deal properly with waste.
Out of curiosity, what was the cost of having those portapotties? I know there were three at the superbowl.
While I don’t know the price, judging by the volume of waste collected I can say that if everyone who shat in those things pitched in 2 bucks they wouldn’t have run into this issue.
